Companies and organizations from various fields, such as Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Specialty Chemical, Food, Consumer Goods, Mineral Processing, Microelectronics, Water Purification, Wastewater Treatment, Air Pollution Control and other sectors, face the constantly changing demands of the market, stricter requirements to the protection of the environment, trying to produce the qualitative and competitive products at the same time. Keeping in mind the fact that all these factors are interconnected, it’s pretty hard to predict how they are going to affect each other and the overall efficiency of the production of the company.
Such issues are usually addressed to the engineering technologists and environmental engineers. They perform all the works related to the creation and planning on the new production plants, efficiency evaluation, as well as the modernization of the existing plants and their ecological safety following the business goals set by the top management of the company. However, only their experience is not enough and sufficient in order to solve these tasks because the so-called method of trials and errors incurs additional costs and unpredictable consequences. In order to avoid the decrease of the product quality, failures, and breaks of the technological process and equipment downtime, one needs to implement efficient tools and processes intended to identify and eliminate all possible problems and issues in a timely manner.
SuperPro Designer software complex allows solving various critical problems in the fields of engineering, production, and ecology, which may arise during all the stages of the production cycle, e.g. designing of the new processes, and optimization of the entire technological process.
Modeling tools of SuperPro Designer software complex allow the engineers to predict the future behavior of a machine or a plant. Such tools include calculation of the physical and energetic balances, as well as the calculation of the reactors keeping the kinetics of the future reaction into account. By using the strict and precise models of the machines, engineers are able to predict the behavior of the new machine in the real conditions.
General information about the usage of SuperPro Designer software complex
Start the program. In case if you’ve never worked with the application, and you don’t have any saved projects, please select Start a New Flowsheet and click OK.
In case if you want to continue working on the last project, select Open Your Last Flowsheet.
In case if you want to work with any other project, or prefer to choose it later, you have to select Open Another Flowsheet or Will Choose Later correspondingly.

Depending on the approach that you want to use for the process, you can choose Batch or Continuous working mode (Figure 2). In case of big production plants (for example, a factory that produces mineral fertilizers) all processes are continuous.
In the majority of small companies and enterprises (e.g. car wash), all operations are periodical. In some cases, such processes may have a hybrid nature. In such companies, a group of processes is carried out on periodically (in a cycle) with the idle periods, while other processes are performed on a permanent basis. In the majority of cases, the working mode of your production plant will define the working mode of the new plant. In case if you select the continuous working mode, you don’t need to indicate the planning data on the level of the operations, procedures, and processes, thus ‘Gantt chart’, ‘Equipment loading diagram’ and ‘Resource diagram’ are not active in the main menu.

You can use the ‘Plant Operation Mode: Batch vs. Continuous’ to choose the Annual Operating Time (for all campaigns).
Annual Operating Time is the full time allocated for the equipment involved in the process in order to perform all the operations required by the process. In case of the factories working in the continuous mode, this is the time between planned servicing and maintenance. In case of plants working periodically, this value defines the amount of time required to perform the process described in the current process flow sheet. In case if the consideration of the yearly output plays a key role, you need to define this value really carefully because it also defines the number of periods, which can be carried out throughout the year.
